as the Institute Edith Cavell –Marie Depage.
Dr Antoine Depage,
a leading European surgeon, was the founder of the Training School for
Nurses in Brussels of which Nurse Cavell was ‘Directrice’.
His wife, Marie, also played an important role in the founding of the
School. She acted as Secretary to her husband, supporting his work and
became a firm friend of Edith Cavell.
Marie played an important role in fundraising for the School and
was especially successful on a trip to America. On her return she was
aboard the SS Lusitania and was drowned when it was torpedoed in May
1915. |
