This print, signed by the artist Eleanor Ross, is of a painting commissioned by Queen Alexandra after Edith Cavell’s death. Queen Alexandra was a great admirer of Edith Cavell. The Edith Cavell Homes of Rest published copies in London and Washington in 1917 for Nurses.

The use of Gothic script, the nun-like veil and collar, the angelic face and the Red Cross depict Edith as a saint-like figure epitomising her popular public image of the time
