Postcard woven silk picture of Nurse Edith Cavell, with 2 dogs. Many of the popular images of Edith Cavell are based on a photograph taken in Brussels in 1914 in which she sits with her dogs. She was very fond of dogs and in Belgium adopted a rather vicious stray called Jack. After Edith’s death Jack was looked after by the Countess de Croy until he died in 1923. Stuffed and mounted in a glass case, he was in Norwich for many years, but now resides in a display case at the Imperial War Museum!
