Norwich
Castle’s Boudica Gallery displays archaeological finds from
Norfolk dating between the start of the Iron Age (c.700-800BC)
through the end of the Roman period in 410AD. It focuses especially
upon the Iceni, the local Iron Age tribe, and their revolt against
Rome under their legendary queen Boudica (or Boudicea). The gallery
displays material from important excavations undertaken within Norfolk,
including:
- Gold torcs from the world-famous Iron Age site of Snettisham
- Coin
hoards
- A
range of beautiful enamelled Iron Age horse equipment
- Roman Army cavalry
helmets
- Valuable personal possessions like jewellery.

The
background to these pages is taken from the design on a floor
mosaic found in excavations at the Roman villa at Gayton Thorpe
in west Norfolk. Finds from this site are in the Norwich Castle
collections. |
