This vine-leaf with a head is an escutcheon, or attachment plate, from a bowl or bucket that was used to attach the carrying handle to the vessel. The head is possibly that of Bacchus, Roman god of wine, or of one of his followers. The head on the vine leaf may indicate that the container it came from was used for holding wine.
