In times of danger, people in the past often buried
their savings to prevent them being stolen or looted. The
Honingham hoard is an example of one such collection that
was never recovered by its owner. Were they killed before
they could recover their treasure? Or did they simply forget
where exactly it had been buried?
The hoard is made up of 341 Iron Age silver coins, made
in the decades leading through into the 40s AD, that had
been buried in a small Roman buff-ware pot. They were probably
buried in about 60AD when Queen Boudica led a revolt against
Roman rule.
