Travelling with the Regiment

Wives and children on the strength would travel with the regiment and were an integral part of it. However, the regiment did not have an obligation to support the children if their mothers died, and they had to look to poor relief or philanthropy. Single fathers were not tolerated as they were in no position to fulfil duties to both their regiment and their children.
